How to get a piercing — the complete guide

From choosing the piercing type to session and aftercare. Everything you need to know before booking.

01Choosing the piercing type

At Funky Tattoo we offer over 25 types of piercing, from the classic (lobe, helix, nostril) to complex variants (industrial, daith, rook, intimate). Each has its own characteristics regarding pain, healing time, risks, and suitable jewellery.

Popular piercings at our studio:

  • Ear lobe — classic, minimal pain, healing 6-8 weeks
  • Helix (ear cartilage) — moderate pain, healing 6-12 months
  • Tragus / Antitragus — moderate-high pain, healing 6-12 months
  • Conch — moderate pain, healing 6-12 months
  • Nostril — moderate pain (makes you tear up), healing 4-6 months
  • Septum — high pain, healing 6-8 months
  • Lip (Labret, Monroe, Medusa) — moderate pain, healing 6-10 weeks
  • Navel (belly button) — moderate pain, healing 6-12 months

Factors we consider in choosing:

  • Area anatomy: not all ears allow industrial, not all belly buttons allow navel
  • Profession: certain piercings are visible and may affect hiring
  • Lifestyle: contact sports, frequent swimming, working with hands
  • Personal sensitivity to pain and healing

Jewellery: we use implant-grade titanium (Titanium ASTM F136) for all new piercings — it's the most biocompatible material, contains no nickel, is light and durable. For fully healed piercings, we can also fit surgical steel, 14k gold, or PVD titanium (gold/pink/black). Jewellery price is separate from the labour price.

When you're not sure which type of piercing suits you, come to the studio for a consultation. Our piercer (Florian) will evaluate your anatomy, explain realistic options, and recommend suitable jewellery. Call +40 731 525 808.

02Booking and session

Unlike tattoos, piercings don't require prior consultation — you book the session directly. Book at +40 731 525 808 (Mon-Fri 10-21, Sat-Sun 13-18) or on WhatsApp. For complex piercings (industrial, intimate, dermals) we still recommend a brief prior discussion to check anatomy.

What to bring on session day:

  • ID card / passport (mandatory)
  • For minors 16-18: parent present with ID
  • Loose clothes that allow access to the piercing area

What happens in the session:

1. You sign the consent form and health status declaration

2. You pay labour and jewellery (together, average 200-600 RON)

3. The piercer cleans the area with alcohol, marks the piercing point with a sterile marker

4. You check the placement in the mirror and approve (you can request adjustments)

5. The piercer uses a sterile single-use needle, opened in front of you

6. The procedure itself takes a few seconds; the pain is short and bearable

7. The jewellery is fitted immediately

We use only single sterile single-use needles — never the piercing "gun", which is traumatic, improperly sterilised, and associated with complications. All non-disposable instruments (tweezers, receivers) are autoclaved according to DSP protocol, and Funky Tattoo is DSP-authorised no. 816/26.07.2022.

After the piercing, you receive written aftercare instructions and the WhatsApp number for questions during healing. Piercer Florian is available for free check-ups at 2, 6, and 12 weeks after the session, to monitor healing and adjust the jewellery if needed. Piercings sometimes experience minor complications (redness, inflammation), but with proper care they heal without problems.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a piercing take to heal?
Healing time depends on the piercing type: ear lobe 6-8 weeks, helix/cartilage 6-12 months, nostril 4-6 months, septum 6-8 months, lip 6-10 weeks, navel 6-12 months, intimate 2-4 months. These are averages; a well-rested, hydrated body without immune deficiencies heals faster. Don't change the jewellery before complete healing.
When can I change the jewellery for the first time?
For ear lobe: after 8 weeks. For cartilage (helix, tragus, conch): after 6 months minimum. For nostril: after 4 months. For septum: after 6 months. The first change is preferably done at the studio, by the piercer, for free or a small fee — to avoid household trauma and infections. Replacement jewellery must be titanium, surgical steel, or 14k gold — never fashion jewellery.
