Tattoo restrictions and contraindications

01Absolute contraindications — we DON'T tattoo

There are situations where we refuse the tattoo session without hesitation. These are not our "preferences", but safety protocols validated by DSP and 15+ years of experience. The refusal is in your interest — a tattoo done in risky conditions can turn into a serious medical problem.

Absolute contraindications — we refuse the session:

• Haemophilia or other blood clotting disorders
• Untreated HIV (detectable viral load)
• Active hepatitis B or C
• Severe autoimmune diseases (active lupus erythematosus, scleroderma)
• Confirmed allergy to tattoo pigments (previously tested)
• Skin conditions in the tattoo area: active eczema, active psoriasis, skin infections
• Pregnancy — in any trimester

Temporary situations — we postpone the session:

• Fever, flu, severe cold
• Ongoing bacterial infection (even an untreated cavity)
• Ongoing antibiotic treatment (wait 7 days after completion)
• Alcohol consumption in the last 24 hours
• Anticoagulant treatment (wait 48 hours after the last dose)

For treated HIV with undetectable viral load (UVL), the situation is discussed case by case, with the infectious disease doctor's approval. Funky Tattoo is a safe studio, without discrimination — we apply universal hygiene protocols for every client, regardless of serological status.

02Relative contraindications — we discuss with the doctor

For certain medical conditions, the tattoo is possible, but requires written approval from your treating physician. These are "relative" contraindications — they depend on the condition's severity, treatment, and the area to be tattooed.

Relative contraindications (require written medical approval):

• Diabetes (type 1 or 2) — depending on blood sugar and the chosen area; extremities (fingers, feet) are contraindicated due to impaired circulation
• Cardiovascular diseases — severe hypertension, untreated arrhythmias, heart failure
• Immunosuppressive treatments (corticosteroids, chemotherapy, biological)
• Stabilised skin conditions (psoriasis in remission, chronic stabilised eczema)
• Epilepsy (warn the artist beforehand; certain areas and machine lights can trigger seizures)
• Moles and nevi in the tattoo area (require prior dermatological evaluation)

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the tattoo is absolutely forbidden during pregnancy. For breastfeeding, wait at least 6 months postpartum and obtain the doctor's approval. The ink contains substances which, although not proven harmful through breastfeeding, are under study.

Medications that affect the tattoo:

• Anticoagulants: Sintrom, Warfarin, Xarelto — wait according to the doctor's instructions
• Oral corticosteroids: prednisone >10mg/day — ink spreading under the skin
• Isotretinoin (Roaccutan) — stop 6 months before and 6 months after; the skin becomes fragile and healing problematic

For all these cases, Funky Tattoo requests written medical approval from your treating physician, dated no more than 30 days before the session. The document is attached to the client's file. 03Legal and studio restrictions

Besides medical restrictions, there are legal restrictions and internal studio policies that we apply without exception. These protect both the client and the artist.

Legal restrictions:

• Minimum age: 18 years for tattoos, regardless of parental consent
• Mandatory identification: ID card / passport checked before each session
• Under the influence of alcohol or drugs: immediate refusal

Areas refused by Funky Tattoo:

• Face (forehead, cheeks, chin) — exception: eyebrows, under certain conditions
• Mouth (inner lips) — doesn't hold ink, heals unpredictably
• Eyelids — serious ophthalmological risk
• Fingers (especially the side line) — ink diffuses, the tattoo becomes black smudge in 2-3 years
• Inside the ear — auditory and hygienic risk

Areas we discuss beforehand:

• Hands (back of the palm) — ink doesn't hold well, requires frequent touch-ups
• Anterior neck — professional visibility; we recommend discussing the impact on your career
• Head (without face) — possible, but the pain is intense

Content policy:

• We don't do tattoos with hate symbols (Nazi, fascist, racist)
• We don't do tattoos with the current partner's name, unless you've been married for over 5 years
• We don't copy other artists' tattoos identically — we adapt the reference into a custom design
