Popular styles for men

Masculine aesthetics in tattooing rely on contrast, saturation and line width — pieces must be visible from a distance and withstand sun exposure and physical wear. At Funky Tattoo, the most requested styles for men combine visual impact with longevity.

  • Old school — thick black lines, solid colours (red, yellow, blue), iconic motifs (anchors, eagles, panthers, hearts). 3rd place 2024 at the Tattoo Expo Convention Bucharest.
  • Tribal / Maori — black geometric patterns, authentic Polynesian and Maori. Perfect for arms, shoulders and chest. Maximum visual impact.
  • Black & grey realism — portraits, skulls, animals, mechanisms. Photographic, fine shading execution. International awards in realism.
  • Sleeve — full-arm compositions with a coherent theme (Japanese, realism, old school). 4-8 session projects.
  • Japanese / Irezumi — dragons, koi, cherry blossoms, oni masks. Classic masculine style with rich history.
  • Geometric / Blackwork — clean lines, symmetrical patterns, mandalas. Modern, minimal, but with presence.

Men should avoid overly small fine-line pieces on large areas — they get lost visually. If you want a discreet tattoo, choose a hidden area (ribs, inner calf) and a proportional size.

Preferred placements for men

For men, the choice of area is often dictated by workplace visibility and the desire to build a larger project over time. We recommend areas that support bold-lined pieces and heal well.

  • Forearm — the classic area. Flat surface, low pain, easy healing, maximum visibility. Perfect for a first tattoo or central pieces.
  • Biceps / upper arm — for classic old school pieces (eagles, panthers, hearts) or sleeve compositions. Muscular area, moderate pain.
  • Back — the body's largest canvas. For large Japanese pieces, full-scene realism, or the start of a backpiece.
  • Chest — classic for flaming hearts, anchors, portraits. Moderate to intense pain on the sternum.
  • Calf — thick skin, holds ink excellently. Perfect for Japanese or tribal pieces that 'wrap' the leg.
  • Shoulders — for round pieces (mandalas, sun, skulls) or to connect a sleeve to the chest.

For a full sleeve, we plan 4-8 sessions of 4-6 hours each, with 3-4 weeks between them. The hourly rate is 250 RON (B&G) or 300 RON (colour). Book a consultation at +40 731 525 808 or contact@funkytattoo.ro.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a full sleeve cost?
A full sleeve (whole arm, shoulder to wrist) takes 4-8 sessions of 4-6 hours each. At 250-300 RON/hour, the total price ranges from 4,000 to 12,000 RON, depending on complexity, style (B&G vs colour) and detail density. Consultation and sketch are free — book at +40 731 525 808.
Can I continue a tattoo started at another studio?
Yes, we frequently work on continuation and rework. Book a consultation with a clear photo of the existing piece and a reference for what you want to add. We assess the style, the quality of the current execution and the compatibility with your desired direction. Sometimes a rework of the old part is needed for visual unity.
