What defines a good color tattoo
A good color tattoo isn't just one with lots of colours — it's one where the colours are used intentionally to build depth, dimension, and emotion. At Funky Tattoo, 1st place Best Color 2019 at Tattoo Expo Craiova, we work with a palette of over 30 established shades, each tested for UV stability and healing behaviour.
Principles of correct colour execution:
- Layering — colours are applied in layers, light to dark, with drying time between them
- Uniform saturation — no accidentally lighter or darker patches
- Controlled contrast — each colour must sing against the others, not cancel out
- Clean edges — transitions between colours must be either abrupt (for colour blocks) or gradual (for color realism)
Color tattoos cost 300 RON/hour (vs. 250 RON/hour for black & grey) due to higher material costs and extended execution time. Additionally, a color tattoo usually requires 2 sessions — the first for the outline and first colour layers, the second (after 4-6 weeks) for details and final saturation.
