How we assess a cover-up
Cover-up is a specialty that requires experience — not every old tattoo can be covered, and not every new piece works as a cover. At the first consultation, we assess:
1. Age of the old piece — tattoos <5 years old have fresh ink, harder to cover
2. Colour — intense black is hardest; red and yellow are easy to cover
3. Size — the new piece must be 30-50% larger than the old one
4. Location — some areas (ribs, fingers) are difficult for cover-ups
5. Skin condition — scars or lesions require special attention
Our options:
- Full cover-up: new piece that completely masks the old one
- Rework: improvement of the old piece (re-outlining, re-saturating colour, adding details)
- Laser + cover-up: 1-3 laser sessions to open the old piece, then cover-up with a smaller piece
In 80% of cases, cover-up is possible. For the other 20%, laser is the only solution before a cover-up. All cover-ups require prior consultation — we don't accept executing cover-ups without seeing the piece in person.
